Major Arcana Decimal Pairs

The soul’s path has a relationship between each of the ten cards in the worldly path and its corresponding position in the conscious spiritual path. Find below my interpretation of these pair relationships from a spiritual path perspective.

THE PERFORMER
Will and action to advance the conditions required for incarnated life.

STRENGTH
Will and action to advance the conditions required for psychic and spiritual development.

THE POPESS
Accumulation of experience and creation of memory of self. Gradual crystallization of the notional entity “me” based on “my” memory.

THE HANGEDMAN
Relinquishing of all memory of self. Realization of Nothingness or Pure Consciousness as Self. Insight into the reality of the non-existence of “me” as a separate entity. Presence independent of memory.

THE EMPRESS
Creation and growth of a personality including qualities both harmonized with and discrepant from our essential nature.

DEATH
Elimination of all that was accumulated that is discrepant from our essential nature. Cleansing. Removal of the unnecessary.

THE EMPEROR
Male. Intentional exercise of control and mastery.

TEMPERANCE
Spontaneous, effortless balance of opposites. Neither male nor female.

THE POPE
Social rules and social order. Absorption of imposed behavioral patterns.

THE DEVIL
Self-limiting harmful rules and blind/unconscious obedience and subservience come to light and are shed.

THE LOVER
Passion. Choice that affects people emotionally. Creation of karma.

THE TOWER
Inability to choose to be liberated from karma therefore external intervention destroys the rigid and liberates the heart to choose new paths.

THE CHARIOT
Accomplishment of objectives on the physical realm. Sense of self and connection to the world via accomplishment of deeds.

THE STAR
Liberation from the compulsion or need to accomplish on any realm, including self-improvement and spiritual goals. Integration in the world via fearless being and inner freedom.

JUSTICE
Execution of cause and effect. Karma (unbalanced emotional bond) accounted for.

THE MOON
Emotional residues of karma come to the surface and are dealt with consciously, rather than brushed under the soul’s rug.

THE HERMIT
Introspection and self-assessment. Shedding light on past action.

THE SUN
Light is found within, producing liberation from emotional residues of karma and engendering unconditional love.

THE WHEEL
Bonding to the repetition of experience to create or pay karma.

THE JUDGEMENT
Final liberation from the bondage of karma through Self-Knowledge: through the Understanding that there was never a Self that was bound.
